Mateo's Artistic Journey
Immersed in the arts from an early age, Mateo discovered his passion for performance through the dynamic world of musical theater—a space where music and storytelling coexist in perfect harmony.
Throughout his teenage years, Mateo brought characters to life in numerous productions, including his performance as Elliott McQueen in the Off-Broadway production of Generation ME at the New York Musical Theater Festival in 2017. After a hiatus from theater to focus on music school, he recently revived the role of Beethoven: Dog Sees God in the 2024 Los Angeles production, as well as the recent New York 29-Hour Reading.
Mateo is a graduate from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music , where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Popular Music; Vocals/Songwriting. This Program has made it possible for him to study under and share the stage with leading musicians in the vibrant Los Angeles music scene.
As a developing artist, Mateo is also an experienced session vocalist, top-liner, and award-winning arranger. He has performed and recorded background vocals with artists like Pentatonix, Libianca, and Trousdale, and performs in a vocal quartet called LOCKED - garnering millions of views on their clean unisons and tight harmonies. As a songwriter, he ranges in collaborations from Country to K-Pop. His arrangements have been performed by high school and college groups nationally, and he was recently awarded “Best Arrangement” at the 2023 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Quarterfinal in Los Angeles alongside his best friends and co-arrangers.
